About the programme
The Africa Liberal Network (ALN) Women Empowerment Programme is an annual training scheme for women politicians from African liberal parties who are planning to stand for elected office.
Launched in 2019 by the Africa Liberal Network in partnership with the UK Liberal Democrats and Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the programme aims to develop the knowledge and skills to help win candidate nominations and upcoming elections, and ultimately to support and promote women’s participation and influence in politics.
Now in its third year, the programme is also supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, VVD International, D66 International and Liberal International and has worked with over 40 women from 15 countries, representing 17 political parties.
The training programme is spread across 4 main workshops over the course of 9 months, covering a range of topics including campaign planning and team building, media and messaging, fundraising, public speaking, grassroots campaigning and more. Through the programme, participants can hear from and exchange with a wide range of experts from different backgrounds and countries, as well as having the opportunity to share and learn from each other’s experiences and to build their networks.
