WFD is seeking a consultant/firm to conduct qualitative research on the cost of politics of inclusive political participation in the Solomon Islands.
Strengthening democracy is an ongoing process. Since 2017, WFD has been working in The Gambia to strengthen the structures and processes of its parliament and to promote greater public involvement in and engagement with political processes. WFD has also been supporting the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities, women, and young people in political leadership and processes in the west African country by partnering with political parties and civil society organisations (CSOs).
Since 2007, WFD has been working in Uganda to support more inclusive, accountable, and transparent political systems and institutions – such as the Parliament of Uganda. So far, our programmes have supported, and continue to support, greater access and inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in formal and informal political processes. Additionally, they have facilitated scrutiny of government performance including progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) provided support to the National Assembly of Armenia. WFD’s partnership was sought by the National Assembly of Armenia as the country transitioned from a presidential to a parliamentary system of governance. Until 2019 WFD supported parliament’s role in public financial management and provided technical and procedural assistance to the assembly.
WFD’s most recent programme in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has now ended. The most recent WFD DRC programme started in October 2019, following a parliamentary election where the results were contested. WFD launched a 6-month programme in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

A new constitution was introduced in Algeria in February 2016. This paved the way for more engagement with the public as new powers were given to the parliament. WFD’s work in Algeria is designed to support the Algerian Parliament in developing the skills to put these new powers into practice.

In 2017, Westminster Foundation for Democracy launched a two-year programme to support research and information management in the Parliament of Botswana and improve methods to engage citizens with the parliament’s work. Working with parliamentary staff from the Research and Library, Hansard, Public Relations, and ICT departments as well as those who support committees, the programme aimed to foster improved, evidence-based policymaking and increase citizen participation in legislation and policymaking. The programme closed in 2019.
Better monitoring of government spending by parliaments can reduce corruption and ensure money is spent as the public intended. WFD worked in partnership with the Parliament of Mozambique and UNICEF to improve the management of public money. Our programme on building Parliament’s ability to conduct budget oversight supported the Mozambique’s Parliament role in achieving this. We also worked with the Mozambican Association of Disabled People to ensure the inclusion and participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the 2019 elections.

WFD Ukraine hosted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) training for trainers in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. Five local experts participated in an intensive session focused on the core principles of PAR. The participants are now ready to implement PAR in two de-occupied communities in the Kyiv region.
