WFD has been working in Laos since 2016, partnering with the National (NA) and Provincial People’s Assemblies (PPA) to strengthen core parliamentary mandates including legislative, oversight and representative functions through a gender lens.
With public debt rising around the world, effective parliamentary oversight has never been more essential. Recognising this, Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) is leading efforts to generate insight and craft and deploy global tools that empower parliaments to play their rightful oversight role.
The Parliamentorship Initiative brought together 20 members of the UNICEF Youth Advisory Board in Serbia, all aged 15 to 25, who were paired with 11 MPs from nine different parliamentary groups, including both ruling and opposition parties. These MPs mentored the young people, guiding them through the intricacies of policy-making and parliamentary processes.

Jordan is a small upper-middle-income country known for its stability in a turbulent region. However, it faces significant socio-economic, environmental and political challenges due to regional instability, the impact of the global financial crisis, the Arab Spring and conflicts in neighbouring countries. Politically, Jordan has a history of monarchical rule combined with attempts at democratic governance. Although political parties are legally recognized, government controls have often stifled political activity, leading to periods of inactivity and recovery.
This report provides a comprehensive assessment of the gaps and challenges within The Gambia’s current legislation, policies, and strategies, along with recommendations for a new National Climate Change Act.

WFD has been collaborating with the Lebanese parliament since 2006, implementing more than 10 programmes over the last 15 years. Our efforts focus on strengthening democratic practices within the Parliament, enhancing financial and budgetary oversight, promoting women’s leadership, engaging young people in politics, and strengthening parliamentary practices and accountability. We support coalitions for reform and build connections between the Parliament and civil society.
This paper identifies six action areas to strengthen responses to the high cost of politics, based on discussions from the two-day Democracy Action Partnership (DAP) event held in Indonesia and hosted by WFD in December 2024.

Around the world, WFD is helping to make countries’ political systems more accountable. In an accountable political system, citizens can hold people with power responsible for their decisions, usually via parliament and civil society.
WFD Serbia focuses on supporting key political institutions in the country, aiming to strengthen democracy, transparency, and a citizen-oriented approach to governance. Over the years, WFD has developed and implemented numerous projects and activities targeting political parties, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (including its expert service and staff), public institutions, leading civil society organisations, research and educational centres and others.
In response to the protests of the Arab Spring, the King of Morocco introduced a new constitution in 2011. The new constitution strengthens the parliament’s legislative role and establishes the principle of gender equality. Both Houses of Parliament – the House of Councillors (Upper House) and House of Representatives (Lower House) – have developed Strategic Plans, setting out a roadmap to enact their new powers as set out in the constitution. Since 2011, WFD has been working with the Parliament to deliver on these commitments.
