For over 16 months, WFD has worked with MPs belonging to the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Youth Affairs (UPFYA) and the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) to build their capacity to engage with their respective stakeholders and generate momentum to influence parliament’s agenda in favour of the advancement of women and youth in Uganda.

Disability inclusion promotes democracy. To promote a consistent approach to inclusion of persons with disabilities in political party activities in Kenya, a document containing minimum standards on disability inclusion has been developed. This is through a WFD and Demo Finland facilitated a participatory working session with representatives from disability rights civil society organizations, disabled persons organizations, and political parties. These representatives have identified and brainstormed on the critical aspects/domains that political parties should focus on to improve their disability inclusion efforts.

The establishment of a coalition for change rallying government representatives, businesses, education and civil society actors and an important study on the cost on youth emigration, supported by WFD, led to raising awareness on the issue, the inclusion of the cost of youth emigration in the proposal of the government’s Strategy on Economic Migration of the Republic of Serbia and the establishing of the ‘Returning Point” program.

A WFD seminar brought together leading experts in parliamentary procedures, policy development and gender equality from more than six countries to explore what best practice might look like in integrating gender analysis and post-legislative scrutiny – two key aspects of good governance. Together, they identified six recommendations to lawmakers in every country.
