WFD has been active in Tunisia since 2011. Our work focused on supporting the Tunisian legislature on constitutional drafting and strengthening the parliament’s oversight, legislative and representative roles. We also worked with Tunisian political parties to promote the leadership of women and youth, and supported civil society to inform and influence policy making.

At WFD, we are always working to promote inclusive politics and make the case for continuing support to democratic institutions and leadership. Here are five ways we are working to address these important issues.
WFD’s work in Bosnia and Herzegovina focuses on advancing women’s political leadership and engaging young people in policy dialogue. Since the mid-1990s, WFD has supported several programmes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including ones that developed political party relationships through sister-party work and supported parliament to monitor the executive.
Strengthening democracy is an ongoing process. Since 2017, WFD has been working in The Gambia to strengthen the structures and processes of its parliament and to promote greater public involvement in and engagement with political processes. WFD has also been supporting the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities, women, and young people in political leadership and processes in the west African country by partnering with political parties and civil society organisations (CSOs).
This year, the Women’s Academy for Africa (WAFA) supported social democratic women to enter politics through training opportunities in Africa. WAFA is a regional network that aims to change the face of politics by identifying, educating, and empowering women in Africa.
Recently, WFD brought together youth leaders from the main political parties in Albania, to participate in a workshop to strengthen their leadership skills. Held in the region of Gjirokastër, in the south of the country, the event saw 17 youth leaders participate in the activities.

The first-ever seminar for female MPs in Sierra Leone, facilitated by Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), united women from different political parties to address national issues impacting women, marking a significant move towards inclusivity and collaborative governance.

While women make up around 15% of people in Thailand's parliament, the challenges faced by women participating in political life have remained in the country, with women still facing many barriers which limit their capacity to progress in political life, especially at the policy making level.

In Malawi, the WFD SNP programme’s work with the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus continued, supporting the development of a four-year strategic plan which provides a clear roadmap for the country to achieve gender-related targets on girls’ education, women’s economic empowerment, gender-based violence, and women’s political participation.
