In 2021, WFD Kyrgyzstan marked a decade’s work to support key democratic institution across the Kyrgyz Republic. Our programmes have helped local councils and parliament in the country to interact more with the people they serve and represent. In the run up to the 2021 election, WFD Kyrgyzstan ran an anti-hate speech campaign as part of the EU media dialogue programme.
In times of a global pandemic, it is important to try and improve newly adapted living and working conditions for all social and age groups. WFD in Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted a research on how the Covid-19 virus affected the youth in that country in terms of living conditions and employment opportunities.

In September 2017, WFD marked its 25th anniversary with the launch of a new Strategic Framework. This guided the development of the Foundation until 2022.

With support from UK Aid through the Standing Together for Democracy Consortium, WFD and the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI) partnered up to reach the PWDs community across Sierra Leone.
The establishment of a coalition for change rallying government representatives, businesses, education and civil society actors and an important study on the cost on youth emigration, supported by WFD, led to raising awareness on the issue, the inclusion of the cost of youth emigration in the proposal of the government’s Strategy on Economic Migration of the Republic of Serbia and the establishing of the ‘Returning Point” program.
