WFD Montenegro, in partnership with the Women’s Club of the Parliament of Montenegro and supported by NDI Montenegro, recently hosted an engaging workshop where women MPs collaborated to develop innovative strategies aimed at driving significant change for women in politics in Montenegro.

The primary goal of this workshop was to enhance the Club's engagement in creating a forthcoming action plan designed to empower women in Montenegro’s political landscape. The session started with an introductory panel featuring Zdenka Popovic, co-chair of the Women’s Club, who expressed her appreciation for the efforts of WFD and NDI in advancing women's empowerment through established best practices. She emphasized the critical role of the Club’s action plan in advancing these initiatives in Montenegro's political environment.

Ana Milutinovic, WFD Montenegro Country Director, acknowledged the ongoing and productive partnership with the Women’s Club and NDI. She underscored WFD’s commitment to supporting the Club’s upcoming initiatives and facilitating discussions on crucial issues affecting women in politics, such as funding for women’s party wings and combating violence against women.

Slavica Biljarska Mirceski, Resident Director of NDI Montenegro, highlighted NDI's dedication to collaborating with the Women’s Club through various direct activities and parliamentary programs. She expressed optimism about the MPs' engagement in advocacy on critical issues, including electoral reform and other vital topics for democratic progress, beyond those traditionally considered "women’s issues."

This workshop marked the second phase of collaboration with international experts Ajla van Heel Merdanovic and Karolina Leakovic, who led discussions and brainstorming sessions. Their expertise helped participants explore innovative strategies to drive meaningful change for women in Montenegrin politics. The MPs also identified new initiatives that will shape the Club’s priorities in the coming months. With the guidance of these experts, members refined their ideas and aligned their objectives to create a comprehensive and impactful action plan.

The representatives of the Women MPs Club will present the draft action plan at the Women’s Club Collegium, further facilitating collaboration with the Parliamentary Committee for Gender Equality.
