In Albania, WFD’s programme led to effective corruption-proofing recommendations being integrated into two crucial laws: the Law on Gambling and the Law on the State Police.
WFD in Albania and the Albanian Parliament successfully piloted the post-legislative scrutiny (PLS) process with focus on the Law on Tourism, enhancing parliamentary oversight.
Recently, WFD brought together youth leaders from the main political parties in Albania, to participate in a workshop to strengthen their leadership skills. Held in the region of Gjirokastër, in the south of the country, the event saw 17 youth leaders participate in the activities.

Civil society organisations (CSOs) are a channel through which citizens can engage with the government constructively to make sure adequate services are provided, helping build more inclusive and accountable democracies. Their role is especially important during the pandemic, as civic freedoms are curtailed and the usual channels of engagement with the government are unavailable.
Following the London Western Balkans Summit, WFD will expand its presence to Albania as we launch a new programme to improve democratic culture in the region with support from the UK Government.
