Realising international environmental treaties such as the Paris Climate Agreement requires the translation of these commitments into domestic laws and regulations by democratic means. WFD Morocco and Lebanon supported democratic oversight of climate legislation.
Between 2019 and 2022, WFD implemented a programme in Lebanon that provided institutional and legal guidance and support to parliamentary committees. WFD’s role centred on supporting the Lebanese Parliament’s efforts to engage citizens in decision-making processes in the face of economic and political crises.

In Lebanon, Law number 81/2018 on E-Transactions and Data Protection has been passed for years, but legal and institutional factors have played a significant role in blocking its implementation. A WFD affiliated network, the Digital Transformation and Governance Network (DTGN), stepped in to identify these blockages, and to carry out the advocacy work needed to overcome them.
The Lebanese youth is severely underrepresented in Parliament, where the median age of MPs is 60.4 years. That is why WFD trained young people elected as MPs to the Lebanese Youth Parliament.
