Marking a significant milestone to enhance parliamentary learning and exchange, the Clerk of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands, Mr. David Kusilifu, and the Clerk of Tynwald (Isle of Man Parliament), Mr. Jonathan King, virtually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in December 2023. The MOU establishes a joint framework for parliamentary learning exchange and capacity building between the two parliaments.

The MoU signing was facilitated by Westminster Foundation for Democracy as a part of its effort to support the professional development of the NPSI secretariat/staff and the members of parliament.

During the event, Clerk of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands Mr. David Kusilifu remarked “this MOU signed is another milestone that will further develop the peer-to-peer bond between the National Parliament of Solomon Islands and Tynwald, the Parliament of the Isle of Man.”

Several learning activities are being undertaken under this initiative covering areas of mutual interest, including:

  • Committee structure, roles and responsibilities
  • Parliamentary autonomy
  • Organisational structure
  • Research approaches

Both parliaments have committed to monthly online learning exchange sessions, initially facilitated by WFD enabling direct peer-to-peer communication and sharing between both the parliaments.
